The disappearing watercooler

The weather’s been slowly getting better so I’ve been going out. Had some sushi, met with a tailor, and then had some hot dogs. Probably should have skipped the last one.

Emerging from winter

Sushi on the UWS
The weather’s been slowly getting better so I’ve been emerging from my winter shell.

Met up some college buddies for sushi around the way the other day and, yesterday night, headed over to my local tailor with my buddy Paul to get some clothes fixed.

Regrettably stopped off at Grey’s Papaya after dinner to get a dessert of two hot dogs.

Her: TWO hot dogs? After you had a dinner of ribs and potatoes?
Me: I’m not proud.

Rum on the UWS
The post I wrote about the HIMYM finale seems to have struck a chord with people because I received several emails and a few mentions by others in social media.

It’s interesting because an opinion just came out in the NYTimes where the author notes that the water cooler is disappearing, both literally and figuratively.

It’s disappearing on the figurative front because there are just so many shows to watch and we all have such divergent interests.

So to find something that so many of us can actually discuss is rare.

On that note, I’m finding that more and more people are reading this blog, but less and less are leaving comments here – when you do comment, it’s either to an email to me, a comment on FB or somewhere else, or no comment at all.

I miss the old LiveJournal account mainly for that reason; because people were such active commenters there.

I’m still here Logan!! I have just been travelling around weekends a lot so I read your posts on the go.

I think social media has shortened the expected response from a media consumer to a like, that comments are less in general.

Well I’d like to think so anyways…otherwise, I’ve gotten really boring.

Hola! Good to see a friendly face. I think that it’s easier for people to post on Facebook, and I’m fine with that. But it does make this blog look empty, even when I know that people are reading it.

Thanks for the comment, though! It’s good to step away from the work for a moment in the day to just chat around a virtual watercooler.

Hi! I logged onto my LJ for the first time in a really long while and went through the last posts of my friends list. Pretty much everyone’s been gone for two or three years, but your post linked to here so hi again :). I miss the old LJ too.

The sushi looks good, even from Japan :).

Heya! How the heck have you been? I go back from time to time but, like you said, no one’s there; it’s like an empty party. Kinda sad, especially when it was really popular. I think that Facebook really put the nail in the coffin.

I hope you come back here from time-to-time?

And I love sushi; man I wish I had some now.

I’m doing well, thanks! When I was last semi-active on LJ, I was moving to Japan. Still in Japan, but possibly moving back home in a few months (or to a different part of Japan – not sure). Not quite close to schedule, but since I haven’t settled on what my schedule is, maybe I’m actually on schedule. Who knows :p.

I’ll be sure to stop by from time to time.

If you ever travel to southern Japan, I can tell you about a sushi market I like more than Tsukiji.

I’ve been a long time reader even from back in the LJ days, but I admit I haven’t commented in a long time – in part because I use Feedly to browse through all my content, I rarely go to the websites themselves.

However, I will say that your blog is the first I always look for when I’m checking for new content in my reader!

That’s made my day to hear, thanks for the comment!

I miss LJ and, in my head at least, I think that a few people are still reading so it’s good to know that I’m not just fooling myself.

And oh btw, that sushi pic is making me hungrrry, I guess it’s time to find some dinner.
